Occurrence: In aluminous metamorphic rocks; in pegmatites.

Pershing County, Nevada: violet gem material. Arizona.

France; Madagascar; Brazil (Minas Gerais): facetable bluish-green material.

Sri Lanka: transparent, reddish-brown stones.
